He was also Chairman of the World Gold Council from 2002 to 2005. He founded and was Chief Executive Officer of Castle Group Ltd., an international investment company that helped support the development of new mines. He served on the board of Teck Resources Limited from 2003 to 2015 and on the board of Golden Star Resources Ltd. from 2010 to 2015. He currently serves on the board of Royal Gold, Inc., a company that acquires and manages precious metal royalties and streams. Mr. Thompson holds a master’s degree in management studies from Bradford University, U.K., and a bachelor’s degree in law and economics from Rhodes University, South Africa. He is a member of The Colorado School of Mines Foundation Board.
